New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro

    New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro (Réveillon) is the biggest turn-of-the-year party in Brazil and in the world, which takes place on Copacabana beach. The party features a seventeen-minute fireworks display, shows by various artists, currently attracting about two million people. The word réveillon comes from the French verb réveiller which means waking up, so New Year’s Eve is the awakening of the new year. Those who started spending New Year’s Eve at Copacabana beach were Candomblé practitioners in the 1970s. The party was smaller in size, and everyone wore white clothes to greet Iemanjá with offerings taken to the sea before midnight. The use of white and the delivery of flowers to the sea was thus incorporated into the tradition of the new year.

Day 1

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our driver, who will escort you to your hotel. Check-in and rest of the day free for a first approach to the city.  

Day 2

After breakfast, you will participate in a group guided tour of the main tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro. You will visit the Cristo Redentor, the Pão de Açúcar, the Maracanã stadium (outside), the arches of Lapa, the Selaron staircase, the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião and, finally, the Sambódromo.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will participate in a guided tour of the neighborhood of Santa Teresa and the old part of Rio de Janeiro. Located in the heart of the city, with its natural and architectural attractions, lookouts, cultural centers, studios, galleries, restaurants - and even the carnival blocks -, it attracts more and more visitors and tourists, especially those from the region, looking for another alternative to the leisure, with a touch of that quietness of the past, in the heart of the central metropolis. Finally, you will visit the historic center of Rio de Janeiro, passing through the most important points, such as Arcos da Telese Praça XV. Free afternoon available. After dinner, you can watch live rehearsals for the preparation of the carnival in one of the samba schools in the city of Rio. At the end, return to the hotel.  

Day 4

Free day available to relax and prepare for the night's celebrations. In the evening, celebrate the most famous New Year in the world with a buffet dinner and a party in an apartment in Copacabana, overlooking the beach, to watch the fireworks.

Free day to rest and relax.

Day 6

Prainha and Grumari are beaches located in an area of ​​environmental protection, in the west of the river, surrounded by hills and native vegetation. Access is by car only. Prainha attracts countless surfers thanks to the strength and quality of the waves and has a narrow strip of sand. The construction of any building, house or structure in addition to the existing ones, used for the maintenance of the area and for serving regular customers, is prohibited. From there, it is also possible to follow a light path, just 50 minutes away, which leads to a viewpoint with a privileged view. The Grumari beach has 2.8 km of wild and untouched nature. It is also very popular with surfers. In the left corner, it houses the naturist beach of Abricó, where nudism is practiced in a small stretch of 300 meters protected by rocks. Two of the most beautiful beaches in the city!

Day 7

After breakfast, we will continue to the lush Tijuca forest. You will visit the Taunay waterfall, we will visit the beautiful Mayrink chapel. Then, we will proceed to one of the scenic spots in Rio de Janeiro, Vista Chinesa. The temple offers an unforgettable view of the city. And we will end our tour in the botanical garden with its collection of orchids, bromeliads and imperial palms. Free afternoon available.

Day 8

Today you will participate in an excursion that will allow you to explore a favela in Rio on a half-day walking tour. You will have the opportunity to visit one of the three most famous favelas in Rio de Janeiro: Rocinha, Santa Marta or Vidigal. Protagonists of the film "Cidade de Deus", the favelas of Rio were victims of sad stereotypes. The favela tour will show the profound historical and cultural richness of these communities and everyday life, far from sensational titles. At the end of the tour, return to the hotel.

Day 9

Depending on the time and flight, you will be escorted to the airport.
